WOW - the imperf press sheet for the upcoming botanical issue is sold out already! I wonder if a few dealers have bought mega quantities. Sure wish the USPS would save a few sheets for us collectors. I had planned to order one sheet to use on my philatelic mail. Now I know better - next time I'll pre-order these popular se-tenant issues a month in advance!

Do you think the USPS should change their policies and limit sales to dealers?

Mystic is a large purchaser of these items.

It appears that the Richard Allen imperf issue is sold out also. And it was on the website for only a day or two if that. I usually check ever couple of days to see what shows up. I never saw the listing. The express sheet is gone also. And those cost many many $$s. May have to give up collecting the imperfs.

I echo David's response.....

....I don't actively pursue them, but will keep them when I run across them.

Never chase instant collectibles. Reminds me of Beanie Babies...

USPS may think they are creating excitement but I think it will do the hobby harm as collectors cannot complete recent year sets.

One thing to watch out for is that Mystic sells the imperfs of single stamps as singles. Scott requires pairs. The reason is because it is easy to cut the perfs off of a regular stamp to fraudulently create an imperf version.

See, Theresa, they will be available to collectors -- at greatly inflated retail prices.
Do you know, Michael, if they are able to cut a below-face-value deal with the USPS?

I collect used USA and a few folks I trade with, including a few on S-O-R have used imperfs (including those with marginal markings, that I love!) on letters to me.

Such a shame that Mystic is buying them all up, eh?

re: New USA issue SOLD OUT before the issue date???

I thought this whole thing was crazy until I was at the Atlanta show this past weekend. I was there manning a booth, so I came in very early Friday morning. My booth was right across from the Postal Service where before the show opened at 10AM a stamp dealer bought one of those sold out (!) press sheets. The USPS had four of these! Someone else purchased the other three, also before 10AM. The First Day ceremony was at 11AM. I was right there to see the whole thing.
So why is the sheet reportedly sold out? Personally I do not care for this stuff, but I can see where this type of doing business leaves a bad taste in collectors mouths!
