I am curious about the overprint on this stamp. I cannot find it listed
in the catalog, nor on the internet. Thanks.

re: German 10pf with overprint 1923

International Stamp Dealers Day, Munich

Private overprint, probably for a Stamp Dealer bourse, on a 10pfg stamp that was already worthless by that time due to inflation. (First class letter postage for local delivery was already 40 Marks by that time).

That is interesting; I have several of those also. I never knew their origin. Now I know. Thanks Roy. I notice that this particular example was over printed in Munich. Is that correct? Question for Roy: Mine are over printed Berlin, and several other cities. Were the dealers limited to certain issues? Or was any stamp fair game?

Thank you for the information. It is greatly appreciated.

I think that these kind of facts are fun to learn about.

" ... First class letter postage for local delivery was already 40 Marks by that time)...."

And by November 1923 a sheet of those 40 Mark stamps was only worth wrapping up fish.
Stamps were being overprinted in billion Mark values.
