Once more, on the last day of this month, as Moderator of Approval Books, I had to go deactivate a bunch of books that were older than one year Hurry Up. Approval Books are not stores. They MUST be retired by the sellers when time has come.

Let me repeat: It is the SELLERS responsibility to deactivate their older books.

And you, repeat offenders, you know who you are! Angry

I am getting tired of doing it for you, so here is a warning. At Wits End If you do not monitor and deactivate your own books, I will deactivate ALL your books. As the British Monarch would say: " We are not amused". Rolling On The Floor Laughing Selling is a privilege not a right and if you don't do your part, your privileges will be refered to the Management Committe (the VCs) I Don't Want To See and could be suspended! And I am dead serious about this! Time Out

Rrr...(As Moderator of Approval Books)

And no, I did not have a bad night!

Wouldn't it be simpler for all concerned just to run a nightly script and delete books older than 1 year? Seems like a task perfect for automation.

Automation at this end is what we aim to do, when we have programming time (Tim) and when the priorities dictate it must be done. But right now we have two measures..Book Number, and Date Last Updated, (which measures when material has been added). This creates conflicts and errors even when I pay attention (on my part, my apologies).
Remember also that we do not want to retire books that still get sales, but I, as moderator, cannot monitor your sales! It is complicated.

The eventual software I am recommending will use the book number (or date when first issued) because we do not want sellers to game the sytem by adding something at the one year mark to gain another year of shelf life. Books are not going to be stores!
Any other method adds a lot complexity, which I personally do not feel is needed, but then it will be a decision taken by a committee, and after review of the complexity of the programming task. But simpler is always better, in my view!

The current lack of rule clarity causes confusion, and I am sorry for it. We are all learning this product and establishing the platform rules from learned experience, trying to be as unobtrusive and accomodating as possible, and asking everyone's cooperation, for now. Moderating the Approval Book platform is NOT a full time job, so bear with me if I try to push you all to do your part. A computer program will be a lot less permissive than I am...and it will come!

re: Approval Books older than One year will be deactivated by Sellers

On May 1 2016, once again, I deactivate a dozen books that were older than one year.
A reminder: Books older than one year MUST be deactivated by the seller.
There are several books that should be retired in the next few weeks. Please monitor your old books!

If you added material to a book that is almost one year old, you are not going to extend its shelf life much. As a courtesy, IF I catch it, you will be granted a one month extention, but it is just too time consuming to check every book for date of last addition...so most likely your book could be deactivated even if you hoped to extend its life. I am sorry about this, but the Moderator does not have infinite free time to check all possible variations.

Above all, Approval Books are not going to become stores. They will be retired after on year, and most sellers agree that this is long enough.

If you feel your book should be granted an exception, please contact the moderator and make your case before your book is disabled.

I am recommending that Approval Books be automatically retired by the software, based strictly on the date of their first activation (ie, their book number). Until the system does it automatically, it is the responsibility of the seller to retire their older books, and not that of the moderator. Thanks for you cooperation.

Ralph, did I read that right? Who, what, why, when, what happens to the approvals now? Who's going to try to step into your shoes? Tell us more.
