Very nice!

But disappointed they used the Australia coat of Arms and not the Tasmania coat of Arms. No doubt because your letter is 1903 which was after 1901 (Federation). Perhaps if you find a letter before 1901 we could see the two Tasmanian Tigers.

Very careless of me. The lion and unicorn depicted are, of course, not a kangaroo and emu.

Just a note on the Australia Coat of Arms since I (incorrectly) mentioned it earlier.

1908 Coat of Arms


New and Improved 1912 Coat of Arms


Note that the kangaroo and emu supports are using one leg to support the shield in the first version. Grass removed and Golden Wattle added to the 1912 version, and the shield now incorporates the badges of the six colonies.

Thanks John. I picked up on that soon after my initial gaffe. Lack of attention to detail will bite you in the ass every time. I tried to atone by posting two nice Australia Coats of Arms, the 1st and the 2nd (current one). I must remember the adage: Think before act. On a positive note, I learned a lot of new information. This site is an education, and I value that a lot. Coats of Arms are a fascinating study unto them selves. And of course the Lion and the Unicorn are the supports of Great Britain Coat of Arms.
