Similar to the WWF (World Wildlife Fund, or, in the US, Worldwide Fund for Nature) issues produced by many nations, to call attention to threatened species, Lithuania publishes a Red Book of Threatened Species, which includes plants as well as animals. Issued on 13 February, this set spotlights 2 endangered species of mushrooms.

The weekend of January 11-13, 1991 saw a series of events, now known as the January Events, which led to Lithuania's independence from the Soviet Union, on 16 February. This stamp, issued on January 12, commemorates the events of January 13, 1991, in which 14 Lithuanian nationalist protestors were killed by the Soviet army, 2 of them being crushed by tanks.

Lithuania has some pretty stamps, and glad to see there still are countries that only issue 21 stamps! It must also be a very healthy country to live in, Mr. Juzeliunas sure had a looooooooooong life!
