It's cool when you find stuff like that in a hoard you already own. No big question, "Should I buy this?" since it's already yours!
Can you scan the back of the cover? Each cover had a serial number on the back.
No problem, John. Do you know how many of these there were?

Robert- The Postal Service wanted to fly 500,000 covers on the STS-8 mission. 261,900 covers were flown which included 1,001 covers flown in the middeck. Since 500,000 covers were prepared, it was determined after the flight covers with serial numbers above 261900 were flown as the covers were not loaded in order. The USPS decided to compile a list of the serial numbers of the un-flown covers. This list can be found on Collect Space under the resources link. If you have any questions, feel free to email me directly.
Thanks John, has there ever been one show up that was on the non-flown cover list, all of which were supposedly destroyed?

There are a few covers that were on the un-flown list and were sold as flown.
The list is long and hard to read, but I didn't find this one on there.
Thanks for the info,
WB
I should have told you in last email, your cover was flown.
That's okay John, I appreciate the heads-up on where to find info on these.

The collectors estate accumulation I picked up last summer just keeps yielding new surprises. I found this in a U.S. Postal Service P-104 Official Business envelope. Originally I thought it just contained a couple of cardboard stiffeners. When I finally got around to actually looking through it, this flown cover and complete folder set were inside. I've never really collected material like this, but it seems like it might be a good place to start.
