The first two stamps are both general revenue stamps from South Vietnam from around 1960.
The Barefoot catalogue describes the second stamp as "border fence with watchtower". It's the lowest value of a set of three with the same design.
The next three stamps are left to right:
- National Liberation Front (Vietcong) SG NLF31 from December 1970
- Vietnam SG 222 / Scott 952 from August 1978
- Vietnam SG 740 / Scott 1443 from October 1984
The next four stamps from the top and then left to right are:
- South Vietnam SG S388 / Scott 399 from September 1971
- Vietnam SG 372 / Scott 1092 from September 1980
- Vietnam SG 368 / Scott 1088 from September 1980
- National Liberation Front (Vietcong) SG NLF12 from December 1967
The last four stamps from the top and then left to right are:
- National Liberation Front (Vietcong) SG NLF23 from April 1970
- Vietnam SG 367 / Scott 1087 from September 1980
- National Liberation Front (Vietcong) SG NLF73 from March 1976
- North Vietnam SG N782 / Scott 741 from August 1974
That's it although I can't find the National Liberation Front stamps in my 2009 Scott.
I was not aware that Stanley Gibbons lists the National Liberation Front issues. Scott does not.
The only catalogue I have that lists them is the North Viet Nam Specialized Postage Stamp Catalogue, published in 1995 by Nu-Line, a subsidiary of ER Philatelics:
There was only the one printing, and the company is no longer in business. Four copies of the catalogue are currently available at this eBay listing.
The catalogue lists four values of the Lenin Centenary issue that Ken asked about:
The catalogue is printed in black-and-white, and the stamps are listed as "Multicolor," which I assume means that they all look like Ken's stamp except for the value tablets. The denominations for mint stamps in U.S. $ 20xu U.S., 30xu, 50xu, and 2 dong, valued at U.S. $5, $5, $6, and $7.50 respectively.
Discussing NLF stamps in general, the catalogue notes the following:
"The first stamps of N.L.F. were issued in December, 1963, and apparently they were used on international mail (editor still research this subject)."
"Postally cancelled examples have not been seen by the editors and postally used on cover are much sought after and desirable items."
I am by no means a specialist on Vietnam, but thought I might share the information I have from the world wide catalogs.
"I was not aware that Stanley Gibbons lists the National Liberation Front issues. Scott does not."
"My understanding is that the N.L.F. stamps were used for a brief period on mail following the reunification in 1976. "
Hi Everyone;
@ Nigel;
Thank you so much for all the catalog numbers, and dates, that was very helpful. It will help me to place these issues in some kind of time line with regards to other North Viet Nam issues.
@ Bobstamp;
Thanks for the info on the catalog source and all your other insight. You have made many other posts on this area of collecting, and I have enjoyed them all. Hopefully more members will take an interest in this collecting area, and the history around it.
So I'm very glad that I started this thread so other members will know to seek one of those catalogs for the NLF issues.
@ SWH;
Thank you also for adding even further info on these hard to catalog and find items. Lots more history there as well.
Just sortin' em out....

Hi Experts;
I found these in a Viet Nam mixture. Someone thinks that the Orange one is a revenue of some kind.
When was this issued and if a revenue, do you know what type of tax it was applied to?
Also it appears that a pin was either missing or was removed from the vertical row near to the top row.
The Red Brown one is obviously a prisoner of war camp. What was it used for and who are the prisoners in the background, Viet Cong, South Vietnamese or Americans?
I also gave up on these after wasting about 4 hours looking thru Scott's.
even tho two of these have dates on them, they were no help at all in finding them.
The one on the right, according to Stampboards is Michael #12. However I was not able to completely load the page. It was so large that my tired old WIN98 crashed & froze!
The top stamp with Lenin's portrait, is dated 1870-1970 and so is commemorating his birth centenary. Scott's shows a 2 stamp set for that date. However both stamps are not 20xu, and the image description doesn't match at all.
Since Stampboards did identify one of these, then I assume Michael's has them listed.
If someone could provide the catalog number from either Michael or another major catalog and the date of issue, I would appreciate that very much.
Thank you in advance for your time.
Just sortin'....
