Purchased this SG 103b KGV the other day, described as 103b. I am using a 2012 SG Commonwealth Catalogue of Australia (7th Edition) and it does not list 103b. There is a 103, and a 103a. But no b. Is the b listed in a newer catalogue?

There are plenty of 103a and 103b for sale on eBay, so it seems both exist. Just confused why the b isn't listed in my 2012 catalogue. And if anyone has any information as to what characteristics a "b" is known for would be helpful.

Thanks!
Eric

Hi Eric

The Stanley Gibbons Catalogues of Australian Stamps never have complete varieties, and even though your stamp may not show up in a SG catalogue, it could well be listed in the Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue of King George V.

I will look at the ACSC and see what I can find about the 103B.

The 5d KGV 13½x12½ I believe comes in 2 different watermarks, a small multiple and C of A.
This may be what the a/b means according to the seller

The 5d KGV 13½x12½ with the small multiple watermark is SG 103a.

The 5d KGV 13½x12½ with the C of A watermark is SG 130.

There is no SG 103b in my 2013 SG Part 1.

re: Australia SG #103b Mystery

Eureka moment. I went back on eBay to make sure there were multiple listings of SG 103b, a statement I made above. While there were 7 listings, they were all by the same seller, someone by the name of Stampy.Stamps. So, perhaps StampyStamps is incorrect on his listing. I am dubious of the b at this point. Quite sure my stamp is 103a.

Thanks all for postings,

Cheers!
Eric

And sure enough, the stamp I purchased was from Stampy.Stamps.

I messaged stampy.stamps and he posted back that it was a typo and should have been SG 103a.

And thus ends the mystery of SB 103b.
