This set of stamps was issued in April 1909. Three values in the set are found with inverted overprints, namely the 3d, 4d and the 2/6d.
As you noticed the inverted overprints are not listed in the 1986 SACC, but they do appear in the 2004/2005 SACC. They are also listed in "The Rhodesia Stamp Catalogue 1983/84" as well as SG.
The "Encyclopaedia of British Empire Postage Stamps" notes that in 1924 the postal authorities released 2,700,00 stamps issued between 1890 and 1910 to the trade. These were all cancelled to order. Presumably the inverted overprints in this set were amongst this lot as they are only listed used.

Thank you Clivel. I was thinking it must have been far more recent. 1924 makes it interesting. I suspect that the stamps with errors were not released at the time because of the errors. It shows in a way the danger of postal authorities earning income like this. On a visit to the GPO in Vientiane in Laos we found that they were doing something similar there with old issues, but without errors as far as I know.

I have just won this in a auction. My 1986 The South African Stamp Colour Catalogue does not show this variety, but a later Gibbons does. Scott says these errors were released by the Rhodesian postal authorities sometime later and many were CTO (cancelled to order). Does anyone know when this material was first sold?
