I'm trying to make this bigger, this is as big as I can get the picture for you to look at.
I'm in town at the library doing this so I have no magnifying glass but is there a ink spot at the man's pants at the back???
The first picture of the stamp is alot better but I just wanted to make it bigger so you can see the Koala better.
The first Koala up a tree stamp that I shown is marked Nov 37 This stamp
one is marked Feb 38
Hi Pooh
The "Koala in tree" variety is a scarce stamp, it's amazing how you have found a few, some people do not have that type of luck. The stamp is too small to see anything. The new Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue for King George VI has just been published, I will be purchasing the catalogue on Monday, I'll check it to see if any new varieties had been added.
Rob
Could someone please tell me what town is on the stamp please I don't think my luck will go a third time finding another stamp This stamp was brought in Australia
Eurelia, South Australia
Thankyou for the information I'm just after some information Did the stamp people know that there was Koala up the tree stamp in 1938?? Or is this new I think I'm trying to ask is Did they think there was only Koala up a tree stamp in 1937
I just looked this place up and Eurelia, South Australia has a population of 14 I bet it was a busy little town back in 1938
Hi Pooh
On October 1, 1937 the note printing branch printed 96,000,000 of the 2d Sesquicentennial stamps, it would have been impossible for the staff to screen each sheet to find errors, considering it was in the latter end of the great depression.
Many minor varieties escaped detection and of course a few major varieties such as the "man with tail:, "Pantaloon" and the "koala in tree" also escaped detection, though there was an attempt to fix the plates when a major error, the "mail with tail" and the "Pantaloon" was discovered.
The plates were retouched, in the case of the "Pantaloon" there were two states of repair, State I and State II (with extra colour added).
The retouched variety in the "man with tail" is catalogued at $25 more than the untouched variety, and the two States of the "Pantaloon" are the same as the non-retouched variety.
2015 Catalogue: Used - "man with tail" $100 ($125 with retouch)
2015 Catalogue: Used - "Pantaloon" $200 (same with retouch)
I will be purchasing the 2019 edition of the ACSC, I will see if there is a difference in catalogue prices in the past 4 years.
Rob
Thankyou everyone for the information I'm really happy that I found this as no one else was interested. Now another question I have seen mint stamps like these that Rob have go up for auction Now my question is Rob said he hasn't really seen any used stamps of Koala up a tree so would the used stamps be more scarce then the mint ones???
I supposed the used ones will go up in price??
Here is another Koala up a tree stamp so far I have 2 stamps
