Some people do collect earliest known usage of stamps. You might want to check with the First Day Cover Society to see what the earliest known usage date for this stamp is. If this is not the earliest know use, then it would probably not hold that much value, but would hold more (not sure how much with modern stamps) if it is.
Thank you Michael for the fast reply.
I have several of these on commercial covers sent from a business in Alice Springs to the company I worked for in Adelaide ( I used to get all the mail ) some up to a week before the official release date.

Back in 1997, the clerks did not read the sell date and sold some of the stamps.
Thank you for your responses. $6.08 postage don't know if its correct postage for a piece or paid for combined postage. It's address on the reverse Side. Thanks Richard
As I travel around the state of NJ seeking postmarks, it's not uncommon to get off dated cancels. On a number of occasions I've received postmarks for the day before. The worst in memory was about a week old. Seems they don't use the hand stamps a lot these days.
I collect NE postmarks and received some cancels for a day or two before but not before release date. Have all the NE active Post offices now.
Sep/16/1997 2 days before Official Release (SEP/18/1997 date) Can anyone tell me any info. or tell me what it is worth ?
Thank you Richard
