Hi Franz
Good set, did you know that all the scrolls are different. And the roller flaw is very easy to see, many are very light.
Rob
Hi Rob
That is very interesting re the scrolls, I never noticed that.
I am also very glad, as it is very difficult to see where they were actually hinged.
It is a very prominent example of the flaw, I could not believe that I actually found one, after searching so long.
You have turned me into a Stampenstein's Monster, (With apologies to Mary Shelly)
Horamakhet
Now for the real challenge, finding the retouched roller flaw
The retouch roller flaw is scarcer than the roller flaw. Whoever wants to look for one would need to have a good magnifying glass and know what to look for. As I am very particular about the centring of these COAs, I'm still looking for a well centred to superbly centred copy, I'm sure one will come my way eventually.
Rob
I've been looking for a used retouch for years (as in, find one, not buy it as such). Hen's teeth come to mind
Hi Horamakhet
Here is how the stamps look when various shades are added, I have two roller flaws, the thin paper roller flaw is one of only two in existence, the second one was recently sold at Status International (Hopefully one day it will come home to its twin).
Roller flaws are scarce (with the exception of the thin paper).
Rob
Hi Dave
I think you would have a better chance finding those elusive hen's teeth.
Rob
Hi Rob & Dave
Now you have set me off on a tangent
A retouched roller flaw?
Just when I was happy that I had found a roller flaw.
In a past life, did the both of you work for the Spanish Inquistion?
Horamakhet
There goes a well kept family secret.
Here is an image of the retouch, it is very hard to notice, if you're lucky you may come upon one that is noticeable which is what I'm looking for.
Rob
Hi Rob
In the retouch, I am not sure what I am looking for.
Is it the tiny very hard to see half moon shape line near the tail of the two
Regards
Horamakhet
The illustration is not a good example as the retouch was corrected where it is nearly impossible to see. The majority of roller flaw retouches leave a weakened base of the “2” where the shading lines are weak, in many cases some of the shading lines are missing.
Rob
Hi Rob
Thanks for that clarification
Will begin the search.
Horamakhet
Next week I'll be posting the 1965 ANZAC set with various shades and varieties of the blue 8d such as the broken rope, missing pocket, retouched rays of light making the rays a distinctive white, very worn chest flaw, chest flaw, etc, in singles, pairs, strips of three, strips of 4, blocks of 4 and a block of 10.
Rob
Hi to all
one of my latest purchases, and my first Two pound roller flaw.
I am very happy with the purchase.
