I guess it's easy to blame extended USPS delivery times on COVID. But, I wonder if this one has another explanation. It's a cover that contained an eBay order, bought and paid for on November 1, 2020...and received today!:
Image Not Found

Looks like the cover was cancelled on November 2 and got a barcode with my zip code. But, because the barcode is superimposed on the city, state, zip it was not readable. Made its way to Nashville (???) by November 10, where it got cancelled again and got another barcode, smudged and unreadable. We both (sender and receiver) had given up on this one. USPS has become much less reliable, but they haven't lost anything that I've expected to receive...yet.

I'm going to respond to the person who sent this cover, sharing this image, and suggesting that he leave room below his address labels for a readable bar code to be printed.

Paul,

pity there's not a 2c pitcher plant, then all three would be topically related to you.

as to the delay, there's no reason for this cover to have gone to Nashville, since it's really bicoastal. Somehow it got misdirected, and took 8 days for Nashville to send it on its way.

re: Modern anomalies

Hah, hah!
It never occurred to me that the sender may have intentionally chosen to frank the cover to topically reflect my surname!

But, when someone asks me how to spell my name, I either say "Like a baseball pitcher", or "Like a pitcher of beer", depending on the asker...

I wish the cover had some more routing marks, because there were 66 days between the time the last marking was applied and the time I received it!

There must be massive accumulations of undelivered mail sitting around in POs....

Today, I just got a Christmas postcard, postmarked on December 22. Sheesh. I have lost all faith in the USPS, to the extent that it limits my inclinations to order anything of value that will be delivered by USPS. "Disgraceful."

re: Modern anomalies

Post is held up everywhere. In Winnipeg on 23rd. December there were 100 semi trailer loads still to be sorted. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/canada-post-christmas-delays-1.5852345
I'm sure this is reflected across the world. Relation in Malta today got Xmas card we posted 22nd, November.
Items I bought from philatelia that were posted to me 25th. Nov have not arrived as yet.

re: Modern anomalies

Make sure we don't blame the entire USPS.

Some of these are results of the ill-fated decisions PMG DeJoy has instituted, including some extremely intrusive restrictions on overtime (https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/24/politics/usps-dejoy-misleading-testimony-overtime-fact-check/index.html) as well the removal and destruction of machinery designed to expedite movement.

worse, each problem is magnified when it affects the next, or previous, step in a chain. For instance, in my area, magazines and other Standard A (old second class material) is being held in processing centers, because local stations aren't able to handle them (my carrier is working unpaid overtime to handle just the stuff he does get, which until recently, hasn't included any Standard A stuff; the December 14 New Yorkers arrived this week; the date is always a week in advance).

Don't believe anything you read or see from CNN. The PMG was appointed by President Trump so CNN would want to smear him as bad as the slander network can. They make a total sham of journalism.

Truth is, the photos of busted up sorting equipment was actually old equipment that was being upgraded at the existing sorting centers. Photo repurposed for their own agenda.

My relative continues to report vast absenteeism at his sorting center due to Covid. He's been out for 14 day quarantine twice, they've had deaths in his ranks. He reports that there is all the OT you wish, but with few takers as people want to spend as little time possible there, to lessen their exposure.

In my model car hobby, someone posted that USPS missent their package to Anchorage, Alaska and their routing showed it was there for a day... I responded that USPS ships mail to be sorted wherever there is available capacity, doesn't matter where since it all goes by air. And Alaska has one the 4th lowest Covid rate in the country!
