Oceania/Australia : What's The Best Way to Sell Early KGV Portrait & Kangaroo Stamps?

Collecting one stamp for each of the 1.5 Million children murdered in The Holocaust.

I uncovered a number of envelopes in "The Hoard" with these stamps but am finding the issue of watermarks, perfs, paper, colours, variations, etc to be too overwhelming.

So, in my own collection, I just keep one of each denomination (with obvious colour differences - like a green and a brown, but not two shades of green).

The problem is now in selling my extras - without spending time I don't have to "flyspeck" - as the prices can be quite different. I want to get them into the hands of someone who wants/knows this area and to do so at reasonably low prices (I also like to use a low BIN to make it faster). But I don't want to make an error in identification and sell a $1 stamp for $5 (or a $25 stamp for $1).

I think the solutions might be:
1) Do the actual flyspecking myself and ask premium price (honestly - not desirable at all).
2) Put each stamp up individually with a price assuming the lowest CV and let the market decide/take the risk (probably still too much work).
3) Put up all of a specific denomination/colour as a single lot, and let eagle-eyed collectors decide (less work for me, but a potential opportunity cost if I let something higher CV "slip through").

Any thoughts?

Thanks, David.

re: What's The Best Way to Sell Early KGV Portrait & Kangaroo Stamps?

Yup, them's the choices.

Forget 2) ... too much work for no additional potential gain, 'cause buyer still won't be able to identify from pics.

1) vs 3) : what's the value of your labour? Or, if because it's volunteer work and you assess that as zero, what's the opportunity cost of your labour .. i.e. could you be spending the time on more of the hoard and generating more cash flow from the same amount of time?

What's the limiting factor? Your time, or the availability of items to sell? If the bottleneck is availability, then you should spend your time to maximize returns from what you have. If you are staring at a mountain of material that you will never get to, maximize the "throughput", which will maximize the cashflow.

re: What's The Best Way to Sell Early KGV Portrait & Kangaroo Stamps?

Thanks Roy.

Even though I am officially retired, I do value my time above money. Especially since my wife is still running an elementary school (which is incredibly stressful in the Covid era) and I am now a full-time "house-husband" with all the responsibilities for cooking, cleaning, errands, etc so that Cathy's life is made easier and our weekends are totally free for each other.

That's why I am mostly selling album pages full of stamps (pretty well unchecked) for an average 2-3c per stamp. I know I could get more money by doing more work, but when I was doing a lot of Approval Books I found my "hourly compensation" was probably about 10c/hour...so...

And I certainly don't lack availability. Of "The Hoard" I bought 6+ years ago I have probably sold less than 20% - for 10 times what I paid - and when I open a binder/file I'm still gob-smacked by the quantity (and sometimes quality) of what I find, and don't recall ever seeing before!

So, I think I'll do an experiment today. I'll take a "quick look" through the KGVs and if I can easily identify (let's say in less than one minute) I'll put it up individually, and if not...I'll put it into a "page-of-goodies" and start it at a low price for the astute fly-speckers.

I'll let you know how that goes! Thanks again for the feedback.

David.

David, I'm always on the hunt for bulk KGV. I don't know what quantities you have, but at the very least, I'd be happy to help. If you want to, take some 600dpi scans of a dozen or so stamps and I'll fly-speck them for you. That would probably be a decent sample (not including perfs or watermarks of course)

Alternatively, I'll buy them all to save your time. If I was to find something very special, I would reward the Holocaust Project appropriately.
