Hi BermudaSailor,
Could this be "ms" for "manuscript", as in a handwritten registration number on the envelope?
Or is this on unused envelopes?
Could it stand for Mail Stationery/size, There seem to be numerous items using an MS number but from many different countries, so possibly to do with the envelope size.
Could you share a picture or a link please?
Here is one link, a search for registered envelopes turns up many with different MS numbers.

Having looked at a number of the items with MS references I'm seeing that they are being sold by just one seller and am beginning to think that maybe they are his stock reference numbers.
Perhaps an email to the seller would elicit an answer?
I should have said...
I did aske the seller what the "MS" meant, but I did not receive an answer.

I was looking at listings for Bermuda Registered Envelopes on Ebay today, and came across a few listing that used "MS" prefixes for what I assume is a catalog reference. The only "MS" listings I'm familiar with are Stanley Gibbons' designations for Mini Sheets.
I am familiar with designations from the H&G and Specialized Bermuda Catalogs, but not this. Does anyone know where this designation may have come from?
