I bought a large box lot of covers from a dealer I regularly buy NJ postmarks from on eBay. It's been said not to buy lots from dealers who list singles, as it will be picked over, but this lot was an exception to that rule. I have an idea the seller just had too much on hand and wholesaled out this box.
Inside I found at least 100 or more World War II era APO covers. Most of them had notations of where the APO was located on them, so they were once someone's collection. I found a listing of WWII APOs online, probably at Stamp Smarter, so I can look them up myself too.
Above is an interesting cover all unto itself. The APO 884 was in Agra, India from August 1942 through February 1946. And that's cool all in itself.
Below is a two page typed letter from a soldier to his mother back home. With censors, they couldn't talk about their mission, but he's rather descriptive of his environment there in India. Most of the letters I find are hand written and often tough to decipher the hand writing, so this one is great!
Oh I love collecting covers!
