re: What is this?

Hi Kool,

There's a note about this in Scott in the postage due section.

The overprint is a capital "T" in a triangle short for "taxe", i.e. postage due.

Similar marks were used on French stamps of the period.

IS THE NOTE IN THE SCOTT SPECIALIZED. Where should I look for it Even though this stamp is New Caledonia, would this surcharge be used in the colony?

Curiously, my Gibbons, Part #6, France and Colonies,
does not mention the "T" in a triangle so I went back to
my old Minkus World Wide and found the overprint with the
coment that they are/were locally printed for postage due.

For those who read (or at least understand) French, here is a page with all explanations.
