That's not an Australian label, and I don't think it ever got here. As we have no suspended service from North America, I'd suggest you have an over-zealous/uninformed USPS worker.
EDIT - This from the USPS website:
The Postal Service™ is temporarily suspending international mail acceptance for certain destinations due to impacts related to the COVID-19 pandemic and other unrelated service disruptions. Customers: please refrain from mailing items addressed to the countries listed here, until further notice.
*Australia’s service disruption affects Priority Mail International® (PMI), First-Class Package International Service® (FCPIS®), Commercial ePacket (CeP), International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) packets, International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) M-Bags, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) packets, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) M-Bags, and Airmail M-Bags.

Crikey, mate, you need the services of one of the
young female United Nations interpreters.
Strewth mate, that's a quote from the seppo site, not the dinkum one.
As of last Friday am (Orlando area), the only manner of shipping more than a basic letter to Australia is via Global Priority. Which is a very expensive alternative.
Based on personal experience, this restriction has been in place for at least the last four weeks.
And local PO staff will offer no insight as to the forecast end of this shipping restriction.
P.S. Two Australia-bound pkgs were returned (after mailing at PO) within the last month.
In my case a single first class letter was returned. I am about to take it in person to a Post Office, for clarification and possibly re-mailing.

Waiting to hear back from one recent Australia buyer about delivery status (package sent a bit over a month ago).
But my first ever (anywhere!!!) “lost” package was to a buyer in Australia about 6 weeks ago. What’s heart-breaking is that I repackaged one big envelope into two, taking advantage of Canada Post’s inefficient pricing methodology to cut their postage cost by $5 - but apparently one didn’t show up and now “The Holocaust Project” is out $22.
Anyone else have issues with Australia deliveries specifically?
Hopefully this will get resolved soon!
Dave

Australia and New Zealand: Expect delays for letters and parcels
Yellow alert: We will attempt delivery to these communities and regions.
Date posted: October 26, 2021
Increased safety protocols and restricted flight capacity to Australia and New Zealand are creating delays for customers.
Some items may be delivered 20 to 30 days beyond published delivery standards. Consumers and business shippers should consider the additional delivery time when making commitments to recipients in Australia and New Zealand. Please know our people are working hard to maintain service and keep the mail moving. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding. Our on-time delivery guarantee remains suspended for USA and International services including XpresspostTM-International and PriorityTM Worldwide."
My trip to the post office was pretty inconclusive. After much arguing, with copies of the regulations in hand, they pulled the returned labels off the envelope and put it, as it was, back into the outgoing bin!!!
So now I have to nervously wait and see if this second round, with stamps already canceled, has any better luck. Will it manage to sneak through the system! Since it was intercepted at the airport sorting station, I am more than a bit concerned!
More info later as I limp along waiting.....

There's been no service to Australia from here (Israel) since May 2020 except by Courier which is a non-starter for us stamp folk.
I recently sent two lots to Australia via the UK and I know one has arrived. Not sure if Dave Sheridan got his packet or not yet.
The Post Office here have no idea when normal services will resume to that large Island down under so problems will continue from here.
But there's always a way around it !

I have been awaiting the arrival of a parcel from Australia for
about two months now. So the "missing" mails syndrome is going
both ways.
And on the good tidings front, a very nice overstuffed envelope
arrived this week from Israel.
I had hoped that Aussie Post might send mail via a steam ship,
but so far no luck.

"I don't think so, but can you remind me what is in it?"
As of noon ET today, restrictions on sending pkgs to Australia from US remains.
Only current pkg shipment option is Global Priority. No date estimate for lifting of restriction.

Now, isn't that just dandy ?
By the time the restricted envelopes or parcels arrive,
neither buyer nor seller will recall any details of the
transaction.
And, of course the dispute rule " .... providing that
the dispute is filed no later than 30 calendar days from
date that the original invoice was issued. ...." will
leave problem solving to the members good will, which is,
fortunately the best part of the SoR auction system.
On the bright side, a heavy parcel that was mailed last
Tuesday from Vancouver, BC, arrived here in Florida on
Friday afternoon, thus keeping me from wondering, worrying
or speculating about the stamps sent from "Down Under.".
I have an eBay purchase a friend of mine in Perth made last year. It’s a piece of chrome trim for his Ford Model A. He’s said to hang onto it. We laugh that it will probably be here the next time he visits sometime in the future!
Yep this time around my mail was returned by the post office.
I guess our friends in Australia will have to wait until post offices rectify the situation. Does anyone believe today that Covid germs are spreading via postal mail?
