DAKA states there were three issues starting in 1950, with 3 values overprinted at some point. Little is known of the locally overprinted stamps. They stopped using them in 1973.
Here are examples of the three printings Brighton Pete mentioned in his post. If I remember correctly, the 1st Printing was "dark purple," the 2nd Printing "light purple," and the 3rd Printing, which was also a lighter purple than the 1st, also had "round" periods after the values instead of "square periods." The examples in my stockbook are in the order as listed, and could be wrong -- please let me know if they are, and I'll rearrange them and correct the post!
P.S. I don't recall if the "red" values were from a particular printing.
DAKA just lists them as either purple and black, or purple and red. But then, they note that the 1st issue is a dark purple with a shark impression, the dots are square and are aligned with the bottom of "kr". The second issue has the same dark shade as the first. Nothing else pertinent is mentioned.
The 3rd issue has a lighter shade and is less sharp, and 2 types of dots exist: Type 1 has square dots the are aligned with the bottom of "kr". Type 2 have round dots that are lower than the "kr". Both types are found on multiples.
The red values are from the 1st printing, except the 5ø which was black.
Looks like they are in order!
Here are a couple of examples of the import tax stamps issued by the Faroe Islands. I believe they were initially issued shortly after WWII and may have been used into the 1970's. I have a catalog hiding somewhere with the details, and will update the info when I find it.
Picked these up back when I was in college from "Lizbeth Stamp Company." I cannot recall the gentleman's name, but he would mail a listing of Scandinavian material, and always had interesting items for sale!
