The 1½d is my favourite of the KGV heads. Multiple colours across multiple watermarks, and riddled with varieties!
Hi Dave,
I think I am beginning to like it more than the penny Red George V.
Have you ever thought of writing a monograph on stamp?
Franz
I'm afraid I'm just an old fashioned collector, collecting countries and getting excited when I fill a page. I admire you collectors who can write monographs on stamps - reminds me of Sherlock Holmes and his monographs on tobacco ash!! Seriously, you people who do that sort of thing have my admiration!!
These examples are just from examining about
two hundred copies. I have not even looked at
the mint copies that I have.
I love to assemble multiple copies of a stamp
that was printed over a long period f time by
different printers, printing agencies or presses.
Obviously some apparent shades are the result
of light exposure or careless soaking, but I
mount them on blank quadrille pages and insert
the pages into the albums close to where the
"official" color/variety is/are located.
Printers, are humans working by eye and are
attempting to match the original shades so they
do make errors that add interest to a collection.
Hi Harvey and others,
talking about silly subjects for monographs, I once wrote a poem about the Tim Tam biscuits.
Regards
Franz
Mmmm, dark chocolate Tim Tam's!
Hi to all,
I think in my opinion that the penny halfpenny George v stamp is possibly the most variety plagued stamp of the Georges. These examples are just from examining about two hundred copies. I have not even looked at the mint copies that I have.
What do others think.
Also one stamp is more of a plum red colour, which I have been told is hard to find used or mint. I don't know if that is true perhaps some-one else knows.
Sorry about the quality of the scans, If I try to enlarge the page, it will be too big to upload.
Regards
Franz
