The Neopost cancelling machines were used by private companies to "pre-cancel" covers before actually handing mass mailings to the post office, so a company may have continued to use up its inventory of Edward VIII stamps for some time after he abdicated, and probably until Gorge VI's actual Coronation and new issues went on sale.
Edward VIII's becoming king was predictable as his father aged and would have been prepared for, while his brother's accession was likely more of a a shock.
I would not be surprised if Charles III designs have not been prepared for approval and printing. But were unanticipated things to occur William V stamps being prepared would be in rather bad taste at this point.
When has "bad taste" ever stopped the Royal Mail?
Sure, you can say that from the safety of the Firth.
But it would be an even worst faux pas for me to do so.
I'll never get invited to the castle foe tea that way.
Aye I can always pop in to Windsor Castle to see my Auntie Betty!
Hey-heyhey! I love your sun Betty. I’m not kidding. I’ll miss her.
I didn’t type sun, I typed aunt. I don’t know where that came from.
Just an inquiry. I have a neipost machine cancel dated July 14th 1937 for King Edward VIII. He was only King from Jan 20th 1936 to Dec 11th 1936. I am wondering how long this cancel may have been used ? I`m told that this meter mark was used from 1936 onward until even into the 1960s. Is that true? Any additional info is appreciated .
