That sounds fascinating - I speak “un bischen Deutsch” so am really tempted to hunt down a copy. I would also like to hear from someone who has a copy. Does it have much on the early varnish issues? Are there lots of varieties listed? I’m just beginning to study Austria and have much to learn!
Philatelia.
Thx for your reply/posting. To clarify, have yet to examine first-hand the Pfalz Richter catalogue. So will reserve comment.
While the Netto catalogue has much to offer v/v Scott (esp re potential flyspecking), believe the SG A/H catalogue is the best resource I've found re the varnish bar issues.
Spent much of the past wknd double-checking the identity (perfs, paper type, varnish bars) of the various Franz Josef stamps mounted in my Austria album. And in doing so discovered a nbr of incorrect placements.
The SG (varnish bar) discussion is very clearly written, accompanied by useful illustration. Also appreciate how SG provides specific details regarding individual series versus Scott's often generic statements. (There is also informative discussion on the Austria Philatelic Society website.)
Would be happy to copy the SG varnish bar pages for you. Send me an email.
Wow thank you for the very kind offer to share this info. Message sent. I’ve been stuffing acquired material onto my Hagnar pages until I have the time to study and identify/flyspeck these issues. Here’s a pic of a part of my messy album. Yup - needs a lot of work.
Hi,
I managed to obtain a copy when the APS (GB) sold off its library. It's in German and has all the perforation details for the issues between 1867 and 1906 + a price list which will only serve as a rarity index as it is well out of date.
With regards to the 1890 issue you can find some of what I have on the APS homepage - "Guest article #3: The 1890 Austrian Empire definitive issue". In it there is a print of spreadsheet page showing all the perf variables as listed in the Pfalz-Richter catalogue. I can provide you with a copy of my original spreadsheet covering 67 > 06 which will help you get started.
I have recently acquired an auction lot in which I hope to find some of my outstanding items / postmarks - https://viennafil.com/en/lots/9087-A76-4162/ - but it will also provide plenty of duplicates in this area. You are free to contact me by email.
regards, karelm
Hi Theresa,
If in that bunch you have Scott #s 68b, 70c, 73c, 75b or 82c, please, drop me a note.
Thanks.
Tony
These are my stamps from that period, I find them easier to "digest" than the W-F since there are no watermarks to deal with.
BTW, the varnish bars are visible to the naked eye.
Recently learned of another Austria specialty catalogue covering the period 1967 - 1906. German text. Supposedly published in 1969.
Wondering if any SOR member is familiar with this catalogue.
Recently acquired the Netto catalogue and Stanley Gibbons Austria and Hungary (Part 2) catalogue. Have been using these to enhance my philatelic knowledge of the Empire and First Republic periods.
Thanks in advance.
