re: French Foreign Legion Stamps in Scott's Catalog?

Hi Gil,

I have come across these stamps as well. The salute and the shape of the helmets looked rather ominous. A little digging found this information: " 1942 propaganda stamps printed to raise money for members of the French "Tricolor Legion." The stamps were printed and sold by the 'Action Committee of the French Legionnaires to combat Bolshevism.' The stamps depict the military forces of the legion, "volunteer" Waffen SS units fighting for the Nazis." There should be 5 stamps for a full set. A set of 2 airmail stamps were also printed for the 'cause'.

The Y & T catalog tracks and lists L.V.F stamps, (LVP: Legion des Volontaires Français contre le Bolchevisme).
These 4 stamps are listed as #7 to 10. In my (older) catalog they are valued Euros 5, 2 and 12 for used. This series is known as the Borodino series and consists of 5 different stamps.

these are not the French Foreign Legion (as we know them). Others have already correctly identified them as LVF; they were French soldiers in German service during second world war.

They've been written up in SOR pages, so you can find a more complete explanation here.
