Probably about 50% overpriced, the catalogue value is around £120. Some look to have damaged perfs but not sure on the reverse or any thins.
I'm also sort of curious if certain plate numbers are worth more. I know that's true of the penny black, but you'd have to be a pretty advanced collector to get into that. I wonder how many people actually try to collect one from each plate number - sounds crazy to me.
One can never complete one of each plate because Plate 77 is too expensive.
The last one that was sold at auction made £495,000!!
However there are collectors that try and complete individual plates by matching up the corner letters.
The lot you pointed out is way way overpriced. I would only pay a quarter of the current asking price.
Some plate numbers are worth a lot more - my 2012 Classic catalog shows several in the $10 to $30 range and a couple in the $60 to $80 range, plate 265 at $750. The impossible plate 77 cats a cool $175,000.
I bought a shoebox full of them back in the late 80's for $30.. many were still "threaded" (back in the day they would hang threads of stamps with a thread running through the center of them and pull off however many you wanted). Leaves a pinhole - most collectors are happy to find a plate number they need and don't consider the pinhole a defect. I ran a few stocksheets through the approvals here long ago- not a lot of interest and now a moot point since I am sure they would consider them "damaged".
I checked my sold file on Hip and noticed I sold several for $10 to $15, pinhole and all. But I sold the normal run of the mill numbers in FVF (save for the pinhole) at 85 cents each. I doubt there are many unchecked hoards left. I think Ian's 25 percent figure is spot on, if not generous given the condition issues.
I've also got a partial plate reconstruction of Great Britain #3, but again condition is mixed so it is no longer welcome here and I kind of want to hang onto it anyway.
The SG albums have a space for every plate number, and collecting them all is part and parcel of a GB collection. This group of 30 is massively overpriced
According to Gibbons 2021 catalogue the Penny Reds cat value is £166.75 = $192 at todays exchange rate.
The 2021 cat val for Plate 77 is £600,000 = $690,000.
"The SG albums have a space for every plate number, and collecting them all is part and parcel of a GB collection."
Yes there are spaces for each plate in Gibbons albums.
Ebay is not the only place to buy stamps in the UK. There are several well renowned stamp shops that provide exceptional service and quality items including plates. They also have an on-line presence.
My 1d reds are almost complete, except 77 of course. My other plated issues are probably half complete.
When I struggle to find a plate, I go here https://www.stampsforsale.co.uk/catalogu ...
" ..... My 1d reds are almost complete, except 77 of course. ....."
Same here and I bet I haven't looked at the pages in twenty years.
I bought quite a few in the 1970s and got bored and cross-eyed
Looking for the numbers.
Wildings and Machins are far more interesting.
I wonder if the Royal Mail mavens have started on the inevitable new
series or is that too delicate a subject.
His Majesty is still to approve any stamp designs but it is believed that he has already sat for the portrait that will be used.
Since I don't collect GB I am curious if they will issue a final series of QEII as a memorial or will they just do a series for Charles III as the new monarch. What have they done in the past?
We haven't faced a change of Monarch for 70 years so we don't know what they will do this time.
Previously no special mourning stamps were issued.
However when the Queen Mother died they took a previous issue and printed a black border round the stamps. They did the same when Diana, Princess of Wales died.
I assume that a new series of King Charles definitives will be issued first., followed by a commemorative issue of the accsession or they will wait for the Kings Coronation.

That will be interesting philatelicly and have more historic value
than some of the seemingly endless array of cartoon poster art.

Saw this on Ruby Lane and thought it might be of interest. I don't collect GB so I'm not sure of the price.
