Actually, I don't see anything unusual about any of that. My wife has fallen 6 times in the past 9 months - 16 stitches yesterday. Our son and family are in the midst of receiving 12+" of snow and can't afford fuel oil. And, I am getting multiple Ebay Orders - details all mixed up.
Hope your wife is ok Bob. When I look around at my friends/neighbors, and hear about the struggles of other folks on SOR (including my buddy BrightonPete), it's almost embarrassing for me to feel so hard done by.
And when I think of my dad (born 1925) growing up in the depression, then going off to war in Europe at age 18, and only able to buy his first house at age 49 ... I guess I really am just bummed out by "first world problems". Time to put on my big-boy pants and get back to stamps!
Dave.
I think that after a certain age we all have some form of "Family Issues". I know that my 2 sons present me with a variety of forms of consternation. I have an old picture that I pull up from time to time that covers it in a humourous way that I will share with you.
Thanks for sharing, Dennis.
Yes, Dave, life can be daunting at times. Which makes time spent in the "stamp room" all the more valuable.
Thanks Dennis and Jim. I believe - as my dad’s Readers Digest used to say “humour is the best medicine”. But also, that looking around at the rest of the world puts your own woes into perspective.
I used to car pool with a new father of a baby girl. He looked at me desperately one day and asked, "It DOES get easier doesn't it? I replied, "No, there will always be issues. They just change. Right now you have a crying baby keep you up at night. Me? I have a 17 year old daughter driving around in her car at night doing who knows what! I don't sleep either!"
Stamps have been on the back-burner for a while as I dealt with various family issues. At that "tipping point" age where my wife and I (and family/friends) start to have our own annoying body/mind issues, our parents start to experience more serious health issues, and our kids are dealing with depressing job/accommodation/money issues.
But as my wife pointed out, that's going to be the new-normal - so no sense staying in bed all the time and letting dust accumulate on my stamps. So I am going to pull out my "Philatelic History of the Holocaust" album, my personal collection, and the scads of stamps crying out for a nicer place to live.
Will start putting up some Auctions/Approvals by tomorrow - and looking forward to some nice spring weather and a fresh start. Apologies to those who have made purchases in the past 4-6 months and then never heard anything more from me.
Dave.
