If you make up a book and do not activate it straight away it lies within your list of Books it is not seen by the other members. They can only see it when YOU activate it so one can naturally assume it will only be labelled as NEW when it is activated by YOU.
EDIT
How other members see it relies on how an individual member has set up THEIR "Approval New Books Page" (whether by Book number or percentage sold or by sellers username)
Thanks Ian. I would also "naturally assume" that. But when I look at new books (however I have it set up) they are all within a very tight number range - no outliers like my pre-started books would be. So I don't want to get caught by that old "when you assume" adage). I'm sure you have a Cambrian, or pre-Cambrian term for that...
Cheers, Dave.
I suspect the date you start assembling your book is the one used for "new" label, and not the date you actually activate it. It was a problem we discussed some time ago, but I am not sure if a fix was ever requested.
rrr...
David, I don't want to miss your books but I probably would in this case. When I look at the books I click on "new Books" and then automatically put them in order. I usually scan down to pick up ones that were delayed like yours will be but if they are delayed too much they might be off the page. What would happen if I didn't do that second sort step? Am I seeing the books by release date rather than the date they were reserved for set up? I have no idea of the answer to this but maybe it solves the problem. If not just let us know here as you release the books. Occasionally I look at books by region and see stuff I totally missed first time around, sometimes stuff is gone I would have liked to have!!
Dave
A possible way around your problem is prepare the books, do the scans and then list them a book at a time.
I normally have all the stocksheets filled with each stamp numbered (normally 1-12), when I have say 10 pages made up they are numbered (1-10), then each page scanned (with a unique scan number to each page). I sometimes do this for up to 4 Books. I then sit down and enter the 4 Books onto the Stamporama system one after the other.
To actually physically list the 4 Books one after the other takes less than an hour.
Like cooking..........preparation is everything.
It appears that the new books are not listed in book number order. Book number order matches "last page added". I conclude that the order must be based on activation date. We know the system must be retaining the activation date because it needs it to determine retirement date.
Harry, could it be that the date saved is the date you set up the book, and not the date you activate it? When you start a book, it is issued a number. The number has nothing to do with your activation date, which could me some time later.

As I said in my previous post
"How other members see it relies on how an individual member has set up THEIR "Approval New Books Page" (whether by Book number or percentage sold or by sellers username)"
Thanks for the various advice, but my issue still remains...this is a question on NEW books only.
Like most people I want to know what is new so I can try to get in before others do. Like Harvey, I seldom am on the computer 24/7 so I often see new books too late - after more energetic members have already gone in and (typically) bought almost everything I want.
So, per common approach, I assume, I go to "NEW BOOKS" and sort in descending (newest to oldest presumably) order. I can worry about topic, seller, etc later - that's not the point here - simply what is "hot off the press".
The issue is that if someone just activated a book, but they started to create it a few weeks ago, it would be buried somewhere down the list. That's my concern in this case.
The ideal solution (not saying Tim should worry about this or do any work on it) would be to establish the Book Number as it is approved for listing, not as it is created.
BTW, the book I started a few days ago but have yet to activate would currently show up about 7th from the top. Where would it be (if at all) a month from now?
Cheers, Dave.
Dave,
For selling:- I would not start listing a book any where near the stamporama system unless it was all prepared, then I would list it when I and it was ready and only then.
"simply what is "hot off the press"."
Dave,
I just checked the code. The New Book selection is based on the date/time the Book is activated.
Regards ... Tim
Thanks Tim, that kinda makes my concern moot.
As to Ian's suggestion, which is fine, except when trying to write down catalogue numbers for the "discerning" buyers, starting a book allows you to do so in real time without having to keep lots of hard copies of pages of info until you're ready to activate/post.
Anyway, I consider my issue closed.
Many thanks to all.
Dave.
I do not need to keep lots of info, for the "discerning" buyer here's an example of a page from an existing book of mine
What you don't see is the scan number.
I look at the catalogue write down the details and these details accompany that stamp/set throughout its life. I use the same system for my auction lots, so if it doesn't sell here at auction it might be listed in the approvals or it might end up on another site or in a stockbook as part of a lot at the local auction house.
"Simples"
It's a good idea Ian, but unlike you Scots who love to burn through money I'm too cheap so I use a separate page to write down the cat#s so I can erase and reuse it for the next approval scan.
But think I'll try a modified version for my next book.
Cheers, Dave.
Dave,
Yup I am into recycling.
I have plenty of old used album pages that I cut up and use for the "Labels".
Finally posted my book today that I started to compile a week or so ago. I am #29 from the top...Will be interested to know if anybody even sees it when looking for "NEW" books.
Dave.
One of the easiest ways to sus out "New Books" is for the seller to list them in the "Stamp Approvals Notes and Notices" section of the Discussion Board, then anybody interested just clicks on the word APPROVALS under the sellers username and "Hey Presto" one is taken straight to their Books!!

You're giving out incorrect information Tim, and that is not like you. You must be aware that the Scots are a race of thrift conscious people and we guard every penny so we can spend wisely. It's our southern neigbours who have emptied our pockets. We let them take us over and what did they do? They sold all our oil and they taxed our whisky so much we can't even afford to drown our sorrows now. I won't venture into politics. Here is not the place to do that. I was simply correcting your earlier post.
Aye us Scots are canny with the bawbees but we have a saying in Old Caledonia:-
"A Yorkshireman is like a Scotsman but with the generosity streak removed!"
"We let them take us over and what did they do?"
The Highland Games are still celebrated in Panama.
So the Scots wern't taken over by the English? Whether or not they were sold out or not, our parliament moved to London for 300 years. Responsibility for making law and raising revenues went with it. My forebears had no say in whether it should be moved to London. They probably did not have shares in a business venture in the Caribbean either. Once again, Ian speaks for every Scot, because he holds opinions, which may, or may not, differ from opinions held by myself and others. The sooner politics is banned on these forums the better it will be.
My earlier post was intended as a joke, hence the emoticons.
For the record, my other post to a different forum tonight was written and posted before I read the latest on this subject.
" Ian speaks for every Scot"
I want to start putting together some Approval Books after many months absent.
These will generate a current book number but I will probably not be able to post them for sale for another 2-3 months.
Will they still show as “New” books based on when I release them or will the number outdate them?
