I have been trying to find a #2 for a long time now. It's not that they don't show up frequently on line. It's just that the differences in colour don't show up well on computer monitors. #2 is listed as blue, #2b is listed as light blue, #3 is listed as dark blue (how dark is dark) and all of them must also be on bluish paper since there was a series of official reproductions, whatever that means, that were printed on white paper! What I'm asking is whether any of you have two stamps that you are convinced, or almost convinced, are #2 and #3. Don't bother to show a scan since that really means nothing, I am just curious if anyone has both stamps, and maybe #2b as well, that you are sure about. My regular stamp dealer and his father have been in the business for over 50 years and are still very confused by these stamps!
Years ago I posted something similar to this and Antonius Ra posted a scan of #2 and #3 that did look a bit different! I went back and stole his scan. They sort of look different but why couldn't these be #2 and #2b (or not 2b, that is the question!! Big Grin) His claim was the first one is #3 and the second is #2 and I can sort of see this but maybe on your monitor it's different!

This shows that really maybe the people who collect by picture only might have the right idea. IMHO these should both be the same Scott #!
Edit: I do have a stamp that I bought as NS #2 at a very fair price because of a stain. The difference in colour is very minor so I am not convinced plus the stain puts me off anyway. So, even if it is #2, I would like to replace it. If I can do that I would only need NS #'s 6 and 7 which are pricey. You have to be very careful not to end up with reprints of #1 to #7 which list for $500 for the set and are on white harder paper. The series is on bluish softer paper but the blue tinge of the paper is very subtle and isn't always obvious in scans. So, considering the prices of these stamps, much care is needed if you buy on line. Make sure the seller accepts returns!!
