I noticed that an e-bay seller had a copy of 77b, Canada's first booklet pane, up for bid. It is a very rare item but this particular copy does not have it's "leader" as it should have. It is just the 6 stamps. Can anyone tell me if this would affect the value and by how much? If it was the booklet itself it would contain two panes and be very pricey, but I only collect the panes. I am only missing 28 panes up to my 1988 cut off but all of mine still have leader attached, I just checked! Can any BP collectors out there help me?
EDIT: I sort of answered my own question. In Unitrade they state that if the selvedge is missing the pane automatically is considered to be used. The only problem is that with a few of the early panes, including this one, used prices are not given. They give prices for mint only - VF ($2000 CAD), F ($1000 CAD) and VG ($400 CAD). So, IMHO, I'm going to give it a maximum price of just under the price for VG, say about $350. What do you think? I decided not to bid and wait for a complete one if I can afford it!! I stole a picture of the item and, is it my imagination, or do I see what seems to be clipped perforations at the top?

re: Question about early Canada booklet panes

In my opinion this booklet pane was manufactured from a sheet of stamps. I could be wrong and I'm not convinced enough to get in touch with the seller. I am pretty sure the top margin shows remnants of the original perforations. According to the way Unitrade describes the sheets of panes there should be no perfs showing at all. I will never buy a BP without selvage unless it is used with postmark. I wonder if there are records of the sizes of booklet panes. If so maybe they should be quoted in the catalogs and specified by the sellers. Unitrade says the panes of six were issued in "sheets of 4 columns, 7 panes per column with the second and fourth columns inverted". So I assume there are very interesting tete-beche pairs out there as well (CV $25 000 for tete-beche panes). These would be fun to see!!! If anyone has BP's for either 77b or 90b, the "biggies", could you post the sizes of the panes so we have something to check if we see these expensive items for sale?
