There are two recorded shades in the ACSC (Australian Commonwealth Specialists’ Catalogue), dull blue and deep dull blue. Unlisted shades being deep blue and pale blue.

To the philatelist, there is only one type of £1 Coronation with the Specimen overprint, and that is the 1938 dull blue (Ash printing) with a blue-black specimen overprint. This is the only specimen that is recorded in the ACSC, but did you know that there is actually three versions of the £1 specimen.

1. Blue-Black (Ash)
2. Grey (Ash)
3. Grey-Black (McCracken)

So far, I have two of the three overprints, the third, the McCracken overprint is the hardest to locate in the condition I prefer, well centred. The new addition, the grey, had literally taken me years to obtain.

I had been sent the certificate verifying the authenticity of the overprint; the stamp is currently on its way to me.

Having two of the three is very rare, having the three even rarer.
