I have been working on additions to a Lighthouse United States of America stamp album and am looking for any available information on color varieties in particular for that album. One stamp in particular is proving challenging in that the 517a light violet issue space in the album is not listed in my 2022 Scott catalogs plus I haven't seen any of the stamps on eBay or Hipstamp. Does anyone have more information on this particular stamp?

Other places where color varieties show in the album include 435 claret brown and 435a copper red, 511 light green and 511 dark green (no Scott # for the 511 dark green variety, this one I found by looking at a series of 511 stamps in a stock book), 525 green and 525a dark green (still looking for the dark green variety), 537 violet and 537c red violet (I have seen both 537b light reddish violet and 537c red violet in a friend's collection which were quite distinctive), 634 carmine and 634b carmine lake (still looking for the carmine lake variety), 635 violet and 635a bright violet (still looking for the bright violet variety), and 694 yellow green and 694b blue green (still looking for the blue green variety). In a few cases I have seen some of these as used stamps but my collecting tends toward mint stamps so no acquisitions as yet and some of the stamps haven't shown up at all during my searches for them.

Hi! I believe I have a number of the dark green 525 variety. They are easy to distinguish from the normal perf 11 flat plate ones in that the front hair lines are much more pronounced. Let me know if you wish to be sent a picture of the grey green and dark green side by side. Chris

I would like to see the 525 and 525a picture as I continue to work to get a handle on the differences in these issues.

Thanks for the picture. It definitely allowed me to confirm that the stamp that I have is Scott #525 rather than 525a which is what I expected but without a reference pair it can be an issue to confirm it.

Here is the album page for the items that I have currently although shadows may pose an issue with getting a useful review. I did actually win an online bid for Scott #534 so it should be here within a couple of weeks.

Note that this image was flipped temporarily side to side but has been corrected.
