This is the first time that after almost three days there is no answer to my posting!!!!!! Unusual for this extremely knowledgeable community!
Is this postmark such a rarity? Maybe this postmark is one of a kind and will make me a millionaire!?
Virgil
I will tell you what I do know. It is the killer section of a duplex cancel. This type of duplex cancel is quite common starting in the 1940's. The unusual aspect of the cancel is the C.A. in the middle of the cancel. You can find various initials within a killer cancel such as RMS (railway mail system), MOB (Money Order Branch) and COD (cash on delivery) for a few examples.
One might be tempted to think this is a state abbreviation but at the time this stamp was cancelled the universally used abbreviation for California at the time was Cal., so it isn't likely to be that.
I believe there are reference materials for this type of cancel though I do not have any to hand.
Best of luck in your pursuit of this philatelic adventure.

My guess when I saw it was: C.A. = Central Annex
(of some major city - New York?)

This is a duplex cancel from New York City. C.A. = Church (Street) Annex.
I collect postmarks on U.S. airmail stamps.

I was wondering if you were going to chime in soon, David!
Bravo.
And Roy was on the right track.
I'm glad we know now, as I was racking my brain trying to recall where I have that info....or if I even do!
Randy:
I've a nice one that says "Maui", from the Territory of Hawaii. From New York City, I've also got "Columbus Circle", and "Times Square". Lots of fun!
David
Amazing, but finally I got an answer. Now, nest question: was the stamp cancelled by the Annex of Post Office on Church Street? Or something different?
First time I see this postmark. Can I get some info about it?
Thanks, Virgil
