Wow. That's not even close. I guess there's a lot of fakes floating around.
"I guess there's a lot of fakes floating around."
Wow. Look at that contrast. I’ve got to pay more attention. Thanks Sally!
Several years ago, my stamp club (the British Columbia Philatelic Society) invited an expert on modern forgeries to speak to us (sorry, I don't recall his name). He spoke primarily about modern forgeries of Canadian definitive stamps, which apparently were being printed in various former Soviet republics to the highest possible printing standards.
Most of his samples, if I recall correctly, were from booklet panes. One particular forgery was so good that the forged stamps themselves could not be differentiated from those issued by Canada Post. He knew they were forgeries, though, because the booklet's cover had a flyspeck "variety" that didn't exist in the government-issued booklet.
The speaker has often been asked to assist in RCMP investigations of postal fraud, and has been a Crown witness in trials. The forgers make their money by selling primarily to corner stores and shady businesses offering "discount" postage.

Thanks for the post Bob - hadn’t heard about the Canadian forgeries. Something else to look for now - sounds like these will be more difficult to detect than some of the US ones

Genuine 5419

Counterfeit 5419

The differences are many and easier to see: the red text is much thicker on the counterfeits and the "A" in the word Heart has a curve at the top, there are no stripes in the ribbon at the top, overall printing quality is much poorer
