My subscriptions to Linns and SSM lapsed in early August. I was all digital. I did not get a reminder so now been 4 weeks and do not miss them. I may resubscribe to SSM but not Linn's. I decided that for a digital issue with all those ads should not cost as much as it does. With what they are charging for ads, it should be almost free to subscribers. Linn's was always a quick read since I do not collect new issues nor purchased from any ads.
I assume that even though they will be saving a considerable amount of money on production costs (no paper needed) they will not be reducing the price of a subscription.
It appears that Linn's is no longer available as a stand alone product. It is only available when bundled with Scott Monthly.
hfbaker, you are correct.
I logged into my Amos Media account and saw the following options:
SSM digital $24.99
SSM print and digital $39.99
SSM digital and Linn's digital $44.99
SSM print and digital and Linn's digital $59.99
It looks like you cannot get Linn's separately now and only $5 more. We do not know if Linn's will be reformatted for digital world. I wonder if the $15 bump for print reflects the actual cost (either subsidized or premium). It seems low so either digital or dealers could be subsidizing.
I remember in the 1960s when Linns was the thing with a hundred pages and a claim of a hundred thousand readers.Of course i subscribed and had many long term swappers from the Trading Posthorn. So now Linns is going the way of the local newspaper.
Have had an entirely digital Linns subscription for a couple years now and really like it. Can read it on my phone anywhere, anytime. No giant piles of magazines to deal with later. Access to all issues in digital form (past and present). Took some getting used to but does work pretty well for me
I have no issue with digital unless it is loaded with pop ups and blocking ads. I find a tablet the best reading platform. I have been reading a lot of historical documents from Vietnam War and only available as PDF so got to use to pinch, stretch, etc.
I am disappointed by this news. My job has me in front of a computer 9+ hours a day. I always liked to be able to flip through Linn's while eating lunch on Saturdays and relaxing away from a screen.
