Lovely centering on that stamp! I enjoyed the video you linked as well. I've watched Fiddler on the Roof multiple times but found I really didn't remember this particular segment other than the song itself.
Have to admit that your mention of the stamp made me think about what significant item I would consider as a "pearl of great price" item that would be worthy of acquisition if finances allowed. For most of my life in collecting, a set of the US Zeppelins C13, C14, and C15 would have been the object of desire. Currently, the most desired item would be a mint copy of Syria Scott #106c for my International 1840-1963 collection (although the availability rather than the price of the item is really the limiting factor) while for my USA Lighthouse album adding a mint VF/XF set of the dollar values of the Columbians would be an item that would require beng rich in a pecuniary sense by my current standards. They really would look nice filling the page as well.
And, of course, there are items that I would purchase if available in VF mint sound condition on my most wanted list, especially Finland Scott #'s 20, 21, and 23, which are the only stamps I still need for my Scott Hingeless Finland album except for the Finland #1 which is definitely beyond my budget. Ideally these would, of course, be priced less than 50% of Scott or I would have to be feeling particularly affluent (or my wife really wants something special as a bargaining issue).
And, of course, January 31st is my birthday!
For me, it's easy:
I would add those Second Bureau issues that I reluctantly left out of my current album:
The 4c imperf 314A has a minimum CV of $52K
The coils (316, 317, 318, 321, 322) have a minimum CV of $392K
If I could afford that, why not add 613 ($40K) and 1789B ($3.5K)?
Mint out 449 ($2500 mint and $600 used is why THAT ONE is not mint yet)!
Finish pushing mint back to First Bureau, and maybe mint out the Baby Banknotes.
After that, I'm with you on a really nice set of dollar Columbians and Trans-Mississippi to showcase the Commemoratives.
However, I have the same issue as Harvey: I don't buy lottery tickets. (Although my wife and I buy ONE TICKET before Christmas each year. We put it in a stocking over the fireplace and check the numbers on Christmas Day. So there IS a chance)!

Wow Lars, a lot of those don't even rate pictures in my album - ambitious or what!! If you ever win the Christmas ticket lottery and buy all that great stuff ( if you can find it ) please post pictures so I can see them. The problem, even if we get rich, is finding the stuff!!! I would love to have Canada #32 but I'd have to convince one of the three people who have them to sell me one! Some of that stuff is almost too damn rare to find. But again, we can always dream!!!
Those items that Lars mentioned other than the 449 are missing from my Lighthouse album as well. Sigh of relief!

I never noticed that Jerrel. Believe it or not I actually have the darn thing. It has a price of $650 written above it, obviously it's only used! Lars is looking for a mint copy. The only actual space not filled on that page is for #459 and that's a cheapie. Damn, I gotta' find that one, it feels great to fill a page!! It's the closest us old farts can come to having real fun, sort of sad, I guess!!!
And, of course, the USA Lighthouse album requires a coil pair for 449! Since my album is all mint, that puts it into the likely never category barring a lottery win. I will occasionally buy a ticket for Megamillions or Powerball when they reach the half billion dollar level. It seems that I must provide some opportunity for a "God wink".
My original USA collection has the 449 as a used single with a Philatelic Foundation certificate.
I had pulled the mint copy of 459 from my original collection and added it to the USA Lighthouse album along with a small number of other items where I had mint VF copies. Those items include 634A, 595, 505, 357, 374, and 319. Three of these are inexpensive in comparison to the others but I haven't found replacements for them either yet at reasonable cost with desired centering. Currently the USA Lighthouse album only has four stamps below Scott #200 so that area needs a LOT of work and will likely never be comprehensive given my mint goal for this album.

That's some amazing US material you have Jerrel. It would be great to see some of that stuff. I have a few of the ones you mention but certainly not mint! Great job!! I would say your US collection is right up there among the best!!
Sorry, I must have missed how to find Jerrel stamps, from your description sounds interesting?
What about minting down?
Some Wash/Franks are worth more used!
I would maybe mint down my #348 MNH with a big thin!
Just a thought...

Sending him some stamps!

Thanks Joe

I was checking on that Newfoundland air mail in Unitrade again. Since it is used the post mark should either say St. John's First Flight or the town Harbour Grace which is 20% more. This one is definitely St. John's. It's too bad you can't pick out the date, it should be, I think, Sept. 25 1930, the date of the flight, unless some were predated, which Unitrade doesn't say. It says 300 stamps were overprinted but it warns of forgeries. Hopefully the two certificates would eliminate this for anyone who buys the stamp. I bet someone will eventually, just not me!!
I would only say that it is a decent collection. There were several members of the stamp club that I joined in Redmond, WA who had much better collections. One member, John, actually had the full sets of Columbians and Trans-Mississippi stamps as mint stamps. Dennis had a 19th Century Scott album which was more complete than my International album. All of my 19th century items put together would likely only yield 2-3 stamps per page for his album if spread through it. Alan had a Minkus based album collection with issues up to 2000 or so that is significantly more complete than my International collection which only goes up through 1963. Chic had a Schaubek album based collection from 1840-1915 which was truly incredible plus literally rooms of other items which he had collected over a thirty year period. He had sold his Switzerland collection which had three different Basel stamps through an auction. Dana always managed to surprise me with the items he could conjure from his collections. Here in Huntsville, Mike has an outstanding collection of postal history items related to the Confederacy while Kathy has managed to build a virtually complete collection of postally used modern US issues which is astounding.
Here on Stamporama there are many individuals with equivalent or better collections. Harvey definitely has a more complete US collection and that wonderful British Columbia collection and other Canada items. Vinman has the most incredible philatelic library imaginable. I really love the stories that get brought to the discussions about stamps and stamp collections all of which provide a depth of knowledge that is very exciting and motivating.
The more I think about it, this site and the members who make it active truly has made me rich through the shared experiences as individuals talk about their interests both stamp related and life related.

Thanks Jerrel, I am very proud of my US and Canada collections and keep them near me so I can look at them whenever I want. The BC complete collection is my pride and joy and was made possible by my local dealer letting me buy on the "payment plan". He did insist on the total amount (about 25% CV) up front for #1 to make sure I was serious! My Russia and Poland collections are not too bad either but I am missing a bit of the pricey material.
You do have to be a little careful of what you say here but all in all it's a great site and I have learned a huge amount. One other point I like is that some sellers, once they learn what you want and know that you are ready to buy the better items, will often get in touch and offer you amazing material. My collection has had some excellent material added to it since I joined just over five years ago. Thanks to all of you who have made this site a fun place to be!
I saw the title of this thread and Fiddler on the Roof played in my mind. I would probably get in way too much trouble if I was rich.

The stamp, early Newfoundland airmail, is now listed as sold!!
https://deveneystamps.com/collections/ne ...
@Harvey
Did you buy it?

"Did you buy it?"

@Harvey, don't you have a mint US 244 and 245? Seems like they wouldn't be far off from that number.
@Harvey
How many were issued?

Ernie - The mint 244 is about $2000 and the mint 245 is about $2400. I bought them from a seller on SOR for about 20% of CV so it was under $1000 for the two. The early used Newfoundland airmail, C5, was selling for $7500 CD so even with the conversion to USD ( about $5000) that's over 5 times as much. I wish I could have bought it but that's a heck of a lot to spend. I did have to spend $4000 CD to get BC#1 but that was very special! The CV for that stamp is just under $20 000 so I did well considering it also has great provenance. Also the seller didn't charge the Canadian GST which also saved an extra $600 so, after a trip to the bank, it was impossible to turn down. Deveney Stamps would have charged me GST on C5 which would have been an extra $1000. a BIT OUT OF MY PRICE RANGE unfortunately!! You really can't have everything! By the way the CV for that stamp in Canadian Dollars is about $12 000 for a VF mint or used copy and $6000 for a F copy. That looks to be very close to VF IMHO! My only hope to get that item is if my local dealer comes across it, gives me a good deal and lets me pay it out!! A certificate would be important as well!
David - There were only 300 stamps produced with that overprint and it (Unitrade) warns of forgeries. Hopefully the two certificates would eliminate that problem!
EDIT: I would never complain about Deveney stamps. I think their price for this treasure was very fair! I've picked up several excellent stamps from them over the last couple years and have always been happy with the results. For anyone who collects Canada material, especially precancels, their site is the place to go.
That is so .... reasonable. Every high dollar Trans-Mississippi or Columbian that I'm interested in they think they're sitting on a gold mine and have to get top buck.

I don't think I'm giving away personal information if I say I bought them from Carl Ratliff from the auction site in 2022. I just looked up the invoice and I paid $2355 for mint hinged copies of #'s 242, 243, 244, 245, 292 and 293. There is no damage on any of the stamps and all are nicely centered. $2355 is a significant amount but I think it was a real deal for 6 very nice stamps! There are great deals to be had here and great people to buy from. I've added wonderful stuff to my collections from StampoRama!!
I've posted these before so please ignore these pages if you're sick of seeing them!! Remember when these scans were done two of the high values (293 and 245) were reversed!

One of these days I might try to work on getting both sets mint, at least the lower valued ones because ones like 291 and 241 would be pricey! With classic US and Canada used is usually fine but these two series, like the Canada Jubilee series, are a bit special!
Was looking through Deveney Stamps new additions. I did manage to find a cheap version of the Weston, Ontario numbered precancel, I only need three now to have all 47 towns and cities!! THEN I SAW THIS!!! https://deveneystamps.com/collections/ne ...
If I was only rich!!! ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBHZFYpQ ... ) Also it has two certificates. I guess you can always dream. I can't even think about winning the lottery since I don't buy tickets. In my entire life, so far, one of the few things I refuse to do is indulge in lottery tickets! Does anyone have $7500 to spare, please?
