Unfortunately, a good catalog is probably the best way. I use a 2023 Unitrade spiral bound specialized and love it. It would be helpful if Canadian stamps were dated. The style and subject matter changes every few years and that helps to send you to the right part of the catalog. Good luck!
you can at least find the year, which will make it easier to search the catalog. here are 4 ways to find the year:
1- look on the stamp, the year might be a small text there.
2- find an app called "Stamp Identifier" - it is for both iphone and android. it is pretty good, but not always
3- use the gemini ai; go to https://gemini.google.com/app and use the + sign to take a photo of the stamp to identify. add something like "what year is this stamp". it works pretty good in most case.
4- search on this site; https://postagestampguide.com/canada/stamps
for the exact number, if you cannot find it, ask in the Canada->Postage Stamps section on this site. people here are very helpful

Thanks Kira! It's helpful to know that they are, in fact, dated. I will definitely try these websites and aps.
I am having a difficult time identifying Scott numbers for newer Canadian stamps that do not have a value printed on it but rather have the P instead. If my guess describing what I think the stamp is a picture of when I google returns nothing, I just put it to the side because I can't figure it out. Unless I flip through all the pages of a Canadian catalogue I can't find it that way either without a denomination. Is there a way to identify these permanent stamps without values on them? It's extremely frustrating. There has to be a better way, I just don't know what it is. I'm hoping someone out there has some knowledge to share with me.
