This appears to be an excise stamp that was overprinted for use as a cigarette tax. I think the '6-10-D' refers to the Imperial Tobacco Co. Does anyone know if this item has been catalogued anywhere, and what the Cat. No. is?

Many thanks,

It's probably bigger than necessary, but thanks! I took it with my phone at my desk, and Bluetooth-transferred it to my laptop for upload here.

re: 2c Excise Overprint

This stamp is listed in E.S.J. van Dam's Canadian Revenue Stamp Catalogue, which to my knowledge is the most comprehensive catalogue of Canadian revenues. This Excise stamp is #FX36, valued at $0.25. van Dam states that many excise stamps are overprinted like yours, either indicating a tobacco company or a playing card company. There also is a Canadian tobacco revenues catalogue, but I have not seen it and do not recall the compiler. It may have more information, for example a list of the overprint codes to identify the company, but I am not certain about this. I do know it illustrates and values (and has a numbering system for) specifically tobacco stamps of various types issued by Canada.
