. It was written/dated October 12, 1928 and Postmarked October 13th, 1928 which was a Saturday! Any idea why the US Postal Service would be working that day, or was it common practice back then? Not sure about back then, but my POs here are open on Saturday. Short hours, but open.
Also, modern US work schedules were not really codified until the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938
Our post office is open on Saturday until noon. Even if the window is closed, it does not mean people are not processing mail. In recent times, there was a lobby window you could knock to get special services.
Also interesting, and unexpected ... postmarks dated January 1st. Who would have thought you'd find posties working on New Years Day? Yet I have found 4-5 for my buddy Mel Bohannon - a New Years Day Baby!
And lets not forget Christmas Day cancels - December 25th. I've got a stampless envelope kicking around somewhere with a bright red Christmas Day cancel.
I just got this postcard from a friend today
