re: re-engraved?

Hi Kira,

I think I see several.

The re-engraved, or re-drawn variety refers to 1283b from 1967 as opposed to 1283 from 1966.

The public didn't like the original stamp because they said George Washington looked like he had an unshaven or dirty face.

With 1283b, George appears clean shaven.

From the four stamps you show there, it looks like 1, 2 and 4 are 1283b.

From the looks of the photo, I think you have a 1283b in the 1283 spot.

I think 1283b looks much better myself.

Here's a "blast from the past" regarding these very stamps.

From Feb. 2018. You'll see such esteemed SoR members as: musicman, 51Studebaker, angore, Linus, AntoniusRa and Michael (Numbers).

re: re-engraved?

oh wow...

so basically, i need to remove the stamp in the album.
replace it with the number 4, which seems in better condition, and re-hinge it on the right side in the album.

then take stamp number 3 with the 'dirty' beard and place that on the previously occupied spot

is this correct?

thank you for the clarifications and the older thread!

yes i am more organized today as i started doing the missing stamps list in google sheets like many other collectors
i still have a long way to go
i saw some collectors even have missing stamps lists of all the countries they collect...
and even lists of duplicates

it must have been a monumental task to create such lists and very time consuming

thank you sir for the help
