Different catalogs have different priorities, I guess. Scott is probably very good when it comes to North American stamps, Yvert concentrates of stamps from francophone countries, Michel on the German-speaking areas, and it shows in their listings.
In any case, these color varieties are striking enough that I'd keep a copy of both no matter what the catalog says. Nobody says we have to restrict ourselves to what is printed in albums or catalogs, and neither do we have to collect everything that has a printed entry somewhere ;-)
Happy new year everybody!

Scott lists a lot of color varieties far more subtle than these and would have expected the Classis listed them. I do not have a Yvert to get a complete list for this series.
SG lists two shades of the 4c:
SG 126 deep magenta and brown
SG 126a reddish violet and brown
Do they list any other color varieties for that series?
SG don't list any other colour varieties in this issue.
My collection is limited but the only clear shade difference I see is in this pair in the 1.50 blue:

The second stamp is toned but I believe the two shades of blue are markedly different.
The 2022 edition of the Specialized Catalogue of French Colonies lists the three attached variants.:
Below is the information provided by the catalogue
First cat value : MNH
Middle cat value : MH
Third cat value : Used
(b) : imperforate issue MNH
4c: standard issue stamp listed as Yvert No. 163, printed in brown and rose-lilac, and the shade variety Yvert No. 163a, printed in sepia and violet.

65c: standard issue stamp listed as Yvert No. 172, printed in olive-brown and rose-lilac, while the variety is Yvert No. 172a, printed in olive-bistre and violet.

1.50f: standard issue stamp listed as Yvert No. 176, printed in blue, while the variety Yvert No. 176a is printed in dark blue.

In the same series, the 5f also presents a colour variety, listed as Yvert No. 177, colour: rose-lilac and brown, whereas the variety stamp referenced as Yvert No. 177a is in violet and brown

Maury gave essentially the same information, so I have revised my wantlist to take these varieties into account.

I was going through identifying some Madagascar stamps and noticed I had two color varieties of these designs. I went to Colnect and noticed these are not listed by Scott or Gibbons according to Colnect. I did check Scott standard and classic. Colnect notes Yvert lists them as a minor suffix.
What gets me is that I them so have to be fairly common enough that they should be mentioned. I do not know how many other color variations exist?
I am getting to print out Steiner but will likely modify the pages to add these. Is there a simple list of similar varieties. I do not have a Yvert catalog to quickly check.
