They are stamps, Kira, cut from postal stationery issued by the U.S. Post Office Department. A great many have been issued over the years; they are a convenience, saving purchasers from having to buy envelopes as well as stamps.
i see
but i did not see any spot in my world album for these
is my world stamp album missing pages or did harris decide not to include these?

They are in my Harris US Lighthouse album but I decided not to collect them - really don't like them! It seems like they left them out of their World album.
ok i will put them on the sides then
thank you
Kira,
adding a little more to what Joe and Bob have already said.
At one time, the convention in collecting postal envelopes (envelopes issued with franking power by their respective postal entities) was, at least in the US, to collect "cut squares" which, if memory serves, were 3" x 2" or something like that. That applied ONLY to the envelopes. Postal cards were always collected as entires. The convention today, in the US, is to collect the envelope in its entirety, so many collectors don't bother with the cut squares (I don't). In the Scott catalogue, the envelopes are found under the "U" designation, with additional prefixes denoting additional aspects of postal stationary.
There are a number of these postal envelopes in our auction; one particularly attractive one is offered by Willis, and includes a Smokey Bear "Remember, ONLY YOU....." pictorial slogan machine cancel. It's from Ironwood Michigan, pop just under 5,000, and a mile away from the Wisconsin border (almost like getting two states in one.... almost). See: https://stamporama.com/auction/auction_m ... I have a few up also. Thought you'd like to see the thing before it met its fate at the hands of some scissors, even though I know you don't collect these.
David
great explanation
many thanks
David, I collect that and any Smokey Bear / fight forest fire cancels. I have two or three different Smokey Bear ones already, but I’m always on the lookout for similar slogan cancels with different slogans and designs, especially any early ones. Name your price!
Bob
Bob
you're in luck. click on the link in my apparently impenetrable prose and find it offered at the very reasonable 57c. It's not my bear, but Willis'.
Go bag yourself a bear
David
David, what are you writing about?! I don’t see a link.
Bob
I have some collect them but they trim very close to the outline of the design.

Sorry, David I thought you were referring to ones other than the one linked to in your first post in this thread.
Bob
ahhh, I can see now. My Imprecise language leads to.....
I will look for Smokey material
David: Tons of Smokey bear stamps and covers are on eBay, but I have of all of the U.S. ones I like. I am now looking for is older covers featuring slogan cancels about forest fire fighting, the earlier the better.
Bob
Kira, since you collect both U.S. and Canadian stamp, you consider buying two catalogues:
- The Scott specialized U.S. catalogue
- The Unitrade specialized Canada catalogue
I consider them vital and own both, and I don’t specialize in either the U.S. or Canada. And both catalogues list postal stationery.
If money is an issue, used copies of both are readily available at reasonable prices from almost any decent stamp shop and online through eBay and other philatelic dealers. Both of my catalogues are two more decades old, but that’s not a problem for me since I mostly ignore stamps issued later than the 1950s, and I pay little attention to catalogue value.
You might consider the catalogues offered by these sellers:
The following links will take you to two used-book sellers who currently have copies of older Unitrade catalogues:
Thrift Books
and
Abe.com (Note: When you get to this web page, type "Unitrade Canada stamp catalogue".)
Bob
@bobstamp.
both links take you to abe books.
I find thriftbooks has bad pricing on scott catalogs anway, and the ONE time I bought a copy from them, they sent the wrong volume. (1B vs 1A 2023)
(I did get to keep it for free though, but I still had to go buy the book again.)

Thank you PhilatelistMag20. I had a very difficult time getting those links to work, and obviously made an error! Now they work properly. I hope.

Kira,
Here's a postal stationery cover (more precisely a stamped cover) in my collection:

My 1993 Scott U.S specialized catalogue says it is U294, worth...wait for it...20 cents! But with its provenance — sent by a turquoise mining company near my hometown, to an international destination, and upfranked with a desirable postage stamp, makes it a highly collectible cover for me. It was offered on eBay for about $20, several years ago.
Bobstamp
and worth every silver penny you paid..... great cover, Bob, made more so by its connections. Even without those, it's a great cover.
