one thing you can try is to reduce the dpi at which they are scanned. Typically 300 dpi is a default, which is great for a stamp, but generally too large for a cover.
I always:
- Scan at 300 dpi and select “Photos” for items being scanned. That gives me images far too large for StampoRama.
- To properly size the resulting image, I set the width at no greater than 800 pixels for covers and postcards. For larger items, I!ll set the width to somewhere between 600 and 400 pixels; 400 - 300 or even fewer pixels in width usually works well for stamps.
- I then “Save for web”. That almost always works.
Scanning is a black art. Try wearing a pointy black hat and a having few crystals in your pocket.

@bobstamp, I do the same except for I set width to 1024 wide for posting on forums.
For 8 1/2 x 11 size posting, I use 100 dpi
For individual stamps I may got o 600 dpi
For my inventory, I use 300dpi for pages. This is enough to zoom in to see what I need to see.
All at 80% quality.

I started another round of auctions. There will be stamps, nothing fancy, and lots of good cinderellas. Including some more USA Exhibition souvenirs.
I had trouble uploading images tonight so gave up early in disappointment. No matter how much I reduced the image, they would not upload.
A couple are there with comments in the description to in the unlikely event someone wants to see a missing image, please email me. Thank you.
Hopefully better luck tomorrow.
