With the 14 dot, 8 plates were laid down, with the 16 dot many plates were used ( 80?) as the issue was printed over 20 years. There were not plate numbers but control numbers were printed onto the sheets.
There is a book available "The Penny Lilac. Part 1, by R A G Lee, which I guess is probably the bible for this issue. I do not have this, but the SG Queen Victoria specialised catalogue Volume 1 also lists essays, plate proofs and many varieties in regard to colour variations and frame breaks etc.
thanks will have to get my hands on this book
