I read that one of the few remaining Audrey Hepburn stamps produced but not issued by Germany has been auctioned for an astounding sum of 67,000 euros. The story is that it was printed in 2001 as part of a set of stamps depicting movie heroes. 14 million were made, but the family of the late actress vetoed it because the stamp showed her smoking. Almost all stamps were destroyed, only some escaped. At this moment only 5 are known used, and earlier auctions resulted in prices of 53,000 euros and 60,000 euros. In one case a collector found the stamp in a bag of kiloware he had bought online.

The collector was very pleased with the price he got for the stamp and celebrated it by going on holiday from the profits :-)
