Thank you Tim for retrieving this article and letter.
There are some interesting items buried in the Stamporama archives

Tim (and any others),
I am familiar with Roy's article; he and I have long shared a fascination for the history behind covers, and covet those with interesting contents. I personally don't find stamps per se all that interesting, but postal history is something else altogether. Hardly a one of my web pages, club presentations, or exhibts has ever been about stamps alone.
For your interest, you might enjoy my newest web page, about the early history of my home town, Silver City, NM. Its springboard was a cover mailed from there to Mexico City, Mexico, in 1893. I'll send you to my home page first -- http://www.ingraham.ca/bob/ -- where you might find several links of interest. To go to the Silver City web page, look for "An old cover takes me home" (the second link).

Tim, thank you for reposting the letter and article. I don't remember seeing it the first time around.

I have been digging around into the internals of Stamporama, doing preparation work getting ready for the move to our new server, and I found this letter from 1843 which I found fascinating. Those of you who have been around Stamporama for many years have already seen this. I went into the archives and found the postings regarding this letter, but for the many members who are new to Stamporama like me, I thought I'd bring it up again so us newbies can enjoy it too.
Here is the first page of the letter that I found:
"First page of Memphis Letter"
Here is the link to the article posted by Roy Lingen in the Stamporama Articles area:
"Roy's Article"
I hope that you enjoy this as much as I did.
Regards ... Tim.
