I know this topic has been answered before but I've been searching and can't find the answer.

When I previously made my own album pages (hinged stamps), I simply used regular 20lb paper with card stock 110lb between and then placed them into sheet protectors.

Since I'm re-doing my collection, I'm running into a dilemna. I was considering simply using the card stock 110lb and then do my write-ups, mounts, etc on that. Only problem is I can only find them in 8x11.5" pages. Since I like everything uniform - my dilemna is that one of my German souvenir sheets is roughly legal page size (I actually have not yet been able to find a sheet protector although I know I can get the legal size sheet protector - of course the store was sold out of those when I was there todau - I need to measure the souvenir sheet because it actually might be even larger than a legal size protector and then I'm at an absolute loss as to how to protect it).

So ---- million dollar question (nope, you don't get the dough) ----

What lb of paper do you use for individual pages with mounts? I could stick with the old method but 20lb paper with mounts, with 110lb stock separator inside a legal sheet protector? I'm a bit worried about lack of air circulation. OR The other option is 24lb legal size and place them inside a legal size sheet protector sans card stock which would allow air circulation - plus make it more uniform with having some pretty large sized s/s and write-ups that I want to do........ So many questions and so much confusion for my small little mind to work through

All suggestions welcomed!

Thanks everyone.

re: Paper weight for album pages - recommendation?

Hi, Kelly...

For my pages, I use a 65# to 70# weight with a vellum finish. They handle the Scott mounts just fine, and I have also mounted airmail covers and souvenir sheets without any problem.

I sometimes also use sheet protectors for the pages with really large items mounted. I use the light or medium thickness which are also "non-stick".

Hope that is helpful.

Cheers,
Terry.

re: Paper weight for album pages - recommendation?

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the input. I'm wondering where to get that type of paper? I usually just go to the local Staples store which has archival paper as well as just regular paper - although I haven't seen that type of paper (yet) in my search through their store and online. I'm in Canada. I want to keep things as inexpensive as possible of course but still have something that is going to be productive. My write-ups in some part are quite extensive alongside the issues. I'm just using MS Word to create my pages. My albums are the Lighthouse Grande so they will fit legal size paper which would actually be most advantageous for me in terms of my collection.

I had the answer to my question here on the type of paper - thanks Terry - I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is available in legal size? The Staples store online does not show a legal size card stock 67lb.

Hi Kelly,
If you have any local printers try to get your paper from them. They often have to buy by the ream or carton when they get their paper from the paper supplier. I would take the time to visit them and talk to them personally. If they doen't have the size you want they can cut it for you from larger sheets. You should be able to get a deal on it also because left over stock is pretty much a dead item in their inventory. MARGIN - Mario

Kelly, I have been using acid-free (So they claim) 90# paper that is available at Office Max at a reasonable price. Of course being a World Wide Postally Used collector I use mounts and have no problems that way. Larger envelopes or SS sheets simply get two, three or four hinges along the top edge and once in a while an extra one stabilizing the item near the lower edge.

As far as I can see that will last longer than I will.

Here is a scan of the paper label from a package of the paper that I use:

Maybe this would be helpful to show the store clerks what you are looking for. You should be able to obtain this in legal size as well. I selected the ivory color to give the page a sort of antique look. I use the top loading document protectors to hold 2-pages front-to-back. I find that provides support for even the most weighty cover or souvenir sheet.

Cheers.
