I've read the auction tutorial, I've read other sellers terms and conditions, I know to clearly state condition and I've looked at what prices get sales so I think I'm "sorta kinda" ready - I've prepped a few lots and have them on hold, too - but it is always best to ask the pros! I'd rather be proactive and get the advice up front rather than clean up a goof after the fact.

Thanks for sharing your tips! Happy

The really nice thing about SOR auctions is that it costs nothing to learn. No listing fees, no selling fees, no buying fees. So post what you have with what you consider a fair opening bid. Select a time period (I would suggest 7 days to start). And, if you wish, put a Buy it Now price on the lot (not required, just an added bonus - also free). See what happens. If they sell quickly, maybe you should have asked more (maybe not). If they do not sell, re-list at a lower price. Have fun with it!

Yes, Theresa, jump in there and get your feet wet and don't suffer over making mistakes, as we all do make mistakes. Try just a few of the lesser value stamps to start with, before getting into the higher values, just to get the rhythm of the auction system.

Best of luck,

Mike

THANK YOU for the suggestions! I activated my lots! Woohoo here we go!

I did a bunch of editing manually until I discovered that there are some handy tools to speed up entering the lots. So, I'm climbing up the learning curve slowly, but surely. Happy

Good Luck with your sales Theresa. Glad to see you back on Stamporama. I don't see any of your Approval Books yet, but will watch for them.

Theresa, i looked at your auction offerings.

First, for the American material, it's attractively priced; and the images are spot on. You chose the right size and clarity. You picked the right balance for these full stock cards.

For the foreign singles you will want to crop them further so that the cards in which they sit are trimmed and the focus is solely the stamp. Most scanning programs allow you to do this at any point in the process. After cropping, increase the size by two or three factors. I can't speak to pricing because I am utterly out of my depth there.

Hope this helps.

re: Thinking of selling my first SOR auction lot - YIKES - any advice for a newbie?

Thanks, Liz! So very good to hear from you! I hope you and your family have been getting better news.

I really missed you all, too. So nice to finally be able to go stampin' again. I have already been drooling over some of your and Lee's auction lots!

I listed some auction lots, not approvals. I'm breaking up the Andorra collection and I've decided to drop a big chunk of my US collection so that I can concentrate on my favorites like Ireland, Japan and others. LOL wait until you see some of my pics - the accumulations were falling out of the stock pages when I flipped them over onto the scanner. It looks like a drunken money mix! Ha ha!

Thank you, David! I'll get busy playing around with the scans today. I thought they looked a tad small, too.

I am confused about the close dates. I set all to June 2, but now they are different? Not sure what happened there.

If you set up all your auctions within a short period of time, and selected the same run time for each (7 days?), then you are correct, they all should have the same end time. I suspect there may have been an inadvertent keyboard entry or two along the way. Regardless, if it bothers you too much, you can end any auction (as long as no bids have been placed) and begin anew.

As far as the size of your scans, don't mess with them! They are perfect. They are clear, well focused, and large enough to make out all important details.

All in all, you did your homework well. Good luck with your sales!
