The different printing types can be told by changes in face value, watermark, perforation, color and paper. Gibbons lists 27 of these stamps (Gibbons #L21-L41), while Scott only lists 19 (Scott #OY10-OY28). The catalogs will tell you the year each stamp was issued.
Michel lists 15 stamps, but with varieties included (perforations, colour varieties etc.) the total is 24.
The stamp you list has 4 varieties: 3 with watermark single star with NZ, 1 with watermark multiple stars / NZ. The 3 with the single star can further be divided into green and yellow-green and the yellow-green one comes with perforation 14 and 14:15
Hope this helps.
Thanks guys for the help. I guess this means I need to check my local library's copy of the Scott Specialized Catalog and figure out which stamp I have.
The 1/2d stamp you have posted the image of looks to be yellow green. That means per Scott it could be one of two:
OY10 - watermark 61 (NZ and star close together) 2015 catalog value $1.40 / $0.90
OY24 - watermark 253 (multiple NZ and star) 2015 catalog value $1.90 / $1.90
OK so what I was wondering is how can I tell the year this particular copy of this issue was printed. I was doing some research and the source said that this stamp was first produced in 1905, and was printed as needed through the 1940's.
I appreciate any help!
Adam
