I'm learning more about the stampless cover era.

Here's an interesting cover from November of 1815. The distance from Baltimore to Philadelphia was 98 miles so a 12 1/2 cent rate would be expected. There was a 50 percent surcharge applied making the rate 18 3/4 cents.

I learned this info about my cover at my local stamp club last year. I wished I had more time at home and not on the road so I could attend more meetings!

Regards,

Don
