So far it has worked great - no problems.
Try to look at the first invoice as a binding contract - it stands alone. It requires the concurrence of both parties to change it which is why you cannot change the terms and conditions when you add to it.

That's the same exact thing I do - add other invoices as an additional charge. I changed my terms once and had no idea why I was having to generate multiple invoices. Since that time I have not changed anything as I don't want to face the problem again.

You are also able to list your terms in the body of the "Description" and just put a period in the "Terms" section. Problem solved, no different colors for your invoicing.

I really encourage people NOT to use your end-around the process. The reason that it is the way it is that we had a lot of problems with people changing their terms after they had posted the lot and before settlement was made. Buyers were getting very upset that the terms that they had agreed to when they bid on the lot had been changed when they came to settle up. The binding agreement is the terms that were in place when you posted the lot in the Auction. Please don't do an end-around and cause problems.

I understand what you are saying, but in my case I had changed three words for clarity - there was no change in the monetary amount, nor was there any change in the intent of the wording.
The modification itself was done simply to provide a means for the customer to make one single payment instead of two separate payments. That both simplifies the payment process and also avoids the additional Paypal "per purchase" fees.

I have been reluctant to change my terms because of this exact issue. When I first joined my first few books I had out did not have the right terms. When I added a few new books I ran into the invoicing issue - so I have not gone into that section again. Now with so many books - I am never sure when I will go in again - although I would like to change some of the language and possibly some of the postal rates. Perhaps when and if I go on a long vacation - I will take all of the books down - change the terms and put up all new books when I get back. This will have to take some careful planning and time !

Changing the postage rates. That will cause everyone problems as you have to know that if we escaped this year with no chabge we won't escape next year.

We already had a change in the US postal rates (up) for package services (domestic and international). On April 10 we get a postal rate change (down) for first class mail (domestic and international).

It's unpaid invoices that are the problem, not the books. If you close your auctions and set your approval books to "inactive" two weeks prior to the 29th you should have no unpaid invoices and thus no problems. If you have no outstanding invoices you can change your terms and restart auctions to close after the 29th and just change your books status to "active". Not a big deal except the lost sales.

I guess I am going to put my two cents in here--whether or not it is wanted. 
When I was auctioneer, one of the things that irritated me most was sellers not holding buyers to the rules. I understand in the case of the small purchase where you want to make it worth everyone's while, but in the end, if the seller committed to the purchase, it's THEIR problem, not the seller's.
I really wish the buyers who are having issues like these not give too long a rope to their buyers. I would advise sellers for those who are taking advantage of their generosity to first, ask the buyer kindly to conform, and if they fail to comply, report them directly to the auctioneer.
Simply blocking a buyer as has been suggested does not help the overall problem as that buyer is probably doing the same thing to others.
I have found that a tap on the shoulder from the auctioneer usually resolves issues.

Since this is getting into the rules, let me just chime in here. The rules to the auctions and approvals are being revised. It is my intent to address the problems that are being faced by both buyers and sellers. I'm not prepared to discuss any details as the rule changes are only preliminary at best right now. However, the recent discussions have been helpful to me.
Right now, I am concentrating on the auction tutorial. From there I will go into the actual rules.

Can't you add a note in Bold flashing Red to advise that as of some operative date
all parcel rates will reflect the added postage charge.

I've dealt with this by sending two invoices and a letter of explanation. I close the oldest invoice and add the amount (less duplicate S/H charges) to the second invoice as a miscellaneous charge.
