I am going thru an old Madagascar collection I found. The 4 stamps in the picture are not listed in Scott. The first two have an overprint I can not identify. The second two are missing the RF in the top left hand corner of the stamps #153 and #183. There is not even a mention in Scott about these. I am no expert on Madagascar but I assume other catalogs may have some info on these stamps and their approx value. I want to put them in an approval book I am creating but have no idea if they are common or not.. Thanks, Steve

re: Madagascar Stamps

Can not talk about the first two, but the next two are Scott #254B and 254A. Need to read the notes following 1943-44, without "RF". May shed some light on the first two. I suspect that they probably fall some place between Scott #212-239, but may not be in Scott.

re: Madagascar Stamps

Ralph yes you are correct about B11 and B12. However Mel you are right about 254A and 254B. I knew the later were not 153 and 183 because they did not have the "RF" in the top left corner like the true 153 and 183. Bottom line - I guess I need to start wearing my reading glasses when I am looking at the catalog. I just missed both of those sections where these stamps were described.. Thanks all. Steve

Steve,

You are not the only one who needs reading glasses. I completely missed the B11 and B12 and I looked there first.Nerd

re: Madagascar Stamps

You are correct Steve. I went back to my Scott album, and guess what....the page with #254A-E was missing completely.
I did find the 20 c in my duplicates, but I guess I trusted the album rather than the catalog, so now I am looking for the others.
So, for all the sellers...I in the market for 4/5 for this set, I guess, or the whole set.

re: Madagascar Stamps

Ralph,
I think the older Scott Catalogs did not have this set and they were added later - so they came up for A-E listing. I think have done this many times in recent years. I know in the Portuguese Colonies they re-numbered the Ceres issue with variations and went to the letters several years ago. It caused some confusion at the time.. Anyway - you know I have 1 of the other 4 stamps you now need. I am planning on putting it in the approval book I am creating for probably early next month . Steve
